Biobanking in BC: A Deliberative Public Consultation
This consultation was run in April/May 2007 by an interdisciplinary research group at the University of British Columbia.

What did it involve?
We invited 25 diverse members of the BC public to participate in a discussion about the collection, storage and use of human tissue samples, DNA and personal information for research purposes. This discussion ran over two weekends in April and May 2007. We expected no prior knowledge of the subject. We asked the participants simply to bring a willingness to listen, discuss, and share their thoughts and perspectives. We hoped they would help us generate useful policy advice. On this website you will  find an introduction to biobanking along with the information booklet and background readings mailed to partipants prior to this event.

International collaboration – Biobanking in Olmsted County: A Deliberative Community Engagement
A parallel event will be run by a research team at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in September 2007. Links to their website will available soon.

Many thanks,
The project team
